  • Dec. 8th Caught plenty of blackfins, The largest was 33 pounds with 9 other citations. 400 plus pounds in all. We were mostly Jigging with our Daiwa and Okuma tackle with colored 80 pound braid. If you have not done this you have to try it. The customers on board have been chartering The Big Tahuna for 6 years and said this was by far there best time.

Come join us for some incredible blackfin tuna fishing!  The weather has been perfect and the fishing even better!

  • Dec. 27th / 28th / 29th  We have been running 25miles 120 degrees out of Hatteras Inlet. We try to find a Mark and then Just drop to depth of Mark basically if fish are marking in 30 Fathoms then we drop 6 colors, and start jigging.

  • Jan. 09  Check out this description of one of our recent blackfin tuna jigging days in January

  • 1/23/2009 This article appearing in Saltwater Sportsman was from a trip on the Big Tahuna.

  • 3-19-09 Hatteras Fishing we had an awesome day. Jigged up some nice size Bluefin Tuna, Trolled and caught a handfull also. The rest of the day we bounced the bottom and caught some Tiles and a 28 pound grouper.  A 100+ Mako bit a bait while bottom fishing and was landed in minutes. All the action was in 68.3 degree water from the 270 line to the 330. Lets Go fishing!!

  • 3-27-09  Another great day on the water. Bluefin tuna were from the 240 line up to the 400 line. We were fishing 80-100 fathoms. Trolling was very productive but we just could not help and put a jig down. If you were set up to chunk this would have been a good day for it. We released one per person and keep one nice fish to bring back to the dock. My crew did not want to catch them all day and wanted a little variety. The current was rolling close to 3.5 knots so it made bottom bouncing very difficult. We did jig up their limit of Jacks and caught two citation Blackfin(20-25pounds)

  • 4-05-09 Fishing at Hatteras has been fantastic

We have fished for the Yellowfins in 50-100 fathoms, but with the current it has not been a good sign of them. When the current falls out and the moon is not quit as full I feel we will start having some luck. On the Big Tahuna you know if we cant find one type of fish we always have other options. We have racked up numerous citations for Groupers, Blackfin Tuna, and Blueline Tiles.

►We just had a great month of April! Call right now for a date in May before we are full.

  Scott,
Just wanted to say "thank you" again for an awesome trip.  I never imagined bottom fishing or jigging for tuna and you guys worked hard all day to put us on some great fish.  I will get in touch with you soon to organize a fall trip and we might be coming down with some friends again in mid July.  Every trip that I have been out with you has been great.  Take care and stay safe.

July 2009

The fishing has been excellent in July as you can see from the pictures.

7-16-2009 - We had an awesome crew, They wanted to catch Tuna so to the north we went. The first hour we had two quality bites and caught a 68 pound Yellowfin and a 58 pounder. The bite this day was slow but a couple boats that got on the fish first thing may have ended up with 5-8 fish. Most of the action was at the 630line in 80 degree water. On our way back we found some grass and trolled and bailed a few gaffers and some small bailers.

7-21-2009  On Tuesday we got our Grand Slam. Kenny had to jump over board  to get the line from under the boat on the Blue Marlin. We had a blue 2 sails and a white Marlin.

7-22-2009 Wednesday we got some gaffers and 2 white marlin and 3 Sails with a 6 year old Brady handling one and Charlie a 8 year old handling another. The two kids double teamed two others with Bradys dad Jeff James showing us all how it was done. He saw the fish come in on a short rigger hooked the fish and caught the Sail. We had 3 generations of James' on the boat that day and we all had a fantastic time. Good Going guys you were something else. Thanks again Salt Shaker lets do it again sometime....

10-24-09 King Mackerel are here in good numbers now. We also have Yellowfin Tuna that are now reachable out of Hatteras. The kings are out front between the Rockpile and the Diamond Shoals Tower. The Yellowfins are mostly located from the 385 line and up. We have had some good days in the 400s which is only 30-34miles from Hatteras inlet. On 10-24-09 We caught our limit of Kings and then trolled around the Rockpile and caught a couple Tuna and a couple nice Wahoo. It was a beautiful day on the water
