FAQ & Relevant Articles

The Big Tahuna provides these Frequently Asked Questions and some relevant articles to help customers get the most out of their charter fishing experience. Please let us know if you feel that we should add other material here that we have not covered.

How many people are allowed on a charter? Our charters are called 6 pack charters by the US Coast Guard because our license allows us to take up to 6 paying passengers.
Do I need to bring any fishing gear or bait? No, we provide the the very highest quality fishing gear and the freshest bait available.
Where do we leave from, what time do we leave in the morning and come back in the evening?  The Big Tahuna is docked at Teach's Lair Marina located in Hatteras Village about 200 yards north of the Ferry Docks on HWY NC12. We try to leave at 6am. and our average charter trip lasts about 8 hours but depends on our fishing that day and the customer's desires.
Do you provide food and drinks? Customer's are requested to bring their own food and drink. We will help you load your cooler(s) when you arrive for your charter.
Can I keep my fish? Yes, in Hatteras it is customary for the customers to take their fish and divide them up among their party.
Do you clean and pack my fish? You can take your fish with you and filet them at home or use the fish cleaning service available daily at Teach's Lair to professionally filet and pack your catch.
What happens if the weather is bad? It is the captain's choice concerning the weather. Please show up for your trip even if you are sure that your trip will be canceled. Often the weather is much different offshore then it is at the dock. If the captain determines it necessary to cancel your trip we can discuss when to reschedule your charter.
Where can we stay while we are in Hatteras? There are several different accommodations available for our charter customers. We currently have a combo charter/lodging package available that you can check out here. We can also recommend any of these local motels.
